'Goleuo' Welsh for illuminate. Illuminating past Welsh industries through lighting. Some Welsh industries may seem forgotten today. Swansea was once known as the ‘Copperopolis’ of the world, and South Wales had deep roots in the production and export of high quality woolen goods. This project seeks to shine a light on these two overlooked industries by working with Welsh Mountain wool, now largely considered a low-grade material, and copper, a material now predominantly sourced from Chile. By utilising Al as a design tool, this project explores the material properties of copper while also exploring Al’s capabilities in conveying a story rich in heritage.
